PFG IN ACTION

September 30, 2012

PFG Australia’s working field days shook up Shepparton at the end of August when a massive range of machinery rolled into town.

In paddocks provided by dairy farmer and contractor Adrian Fitzsimmons, all brands of PFG Australia’s grass, seeding and cultivation machinery took part in working demonstrations with Deutz-Fahr, SAME, Kioti and Yanmar tractors.

Adrian said it was an excellent opportunity to see all the machines working.

“I like the McHale twin satellite wrapper and I thought the Simba machines were very impressive,” he said.

“The event was much better than a static display. I also liked the fact that the catering was done by the local footy club with profits staying here in town.”

PFG Australia’s Grass Machinery Manager, Tim Lawrence, said the company had already been asked if the working field days would be a regular event on the PFG calendar.

“It was obvious how much everyone appreciated the opportunity to see the machines working. They’ve seen the website and read the brochures but nothing compares with seeing them in action.

“We had fantastic support from our dealers across the country and from international and Australian suppliers. Carsten Rasmussen and Peter Heineke flew out from Kverneland to join us and we had great support from Andy Holt, Great Plains USA.

“The people from Topcon guidance systems and Tapex, the Australian manufacturers of twine, net wrap and silage film came to support us and demonstrate their products.

“Farmers and contractors came from Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Tasmania and Victoria, and we also had about 80 visitors from New Zealand. Everyone was very positive about the event,” he said.

“It was good to see farmers standing around a bale talking about our machines. It was a great atmosphere. People watched the demos, asked questions and shared information with each other.

“We signed up plenty of tractor and machinery sales on the back of the demos and we’re very happy with that aspect but I think the flow on effect from this sort of get-together is even more important.

“A lot of farmers and contractors will have gone home and looked at their own machinery and thought about how much easier and more productive their work could be with the right machine.”

Scott O’Hanlon from Landpower Colac sold a Great Plains 3P1006NT drill to a beef farmer who wasn’t going to buy till he’d seen how it performed.

“We met up at PFG in Action, he saw the drill working and that was that – he bought it,” Scott said. “It was an excellent idea to set up the working demos.

It was very well organised and got a good response.”

Hilton Hoger from Ag Requirements in Gatton, Queensland, was particularly interested in the performance of McHale balers and Deutz-Fahr X series tractors. “We hadn’t had the chance to see all of the machines in working situations before, so it was certainly beneficial for us,” he said.

PFG Australia’s Seeding and Cultivation Manager, Steve Robertson, said PFG in Action had attracted people who were really keen to know about machinery.

“They weren’t just there for a day out. They wanted to know what could be achieved. It was very different from the more usual static field days and I think that’s one of the reasons we got such a great response,” he said.

“The concept is a good one and it went off really well. It’s definitely something we’d like to do again.”

The two-day event raised more than $700 in gold coin donations for Cancer Council Victoria.
